Teräspalvelukeskus janla oy’s premises were renovated based on customers’ wishes and to bring the premises in line with the company’s branding. The customer wanted a lighter office that was more open-plan, but also to retain some form of soundproofing and privacy between workpoints. The ceo’s room was connected to the rest of the open-plan office space. The fixed wall that had previously separated rooms was demolished, and a smart-glass wall was installed. Smart glass is remote controlled and easily transformed from opaque to clear, providing privacy or additional light.
A separate conference room wall was also replaced with a glass wall. Oblique room dividers were used to provide privacy and soundproofing. The customer also wanted the interior to feature the company’s colours and products. A steel grating as a material was deemed to have rather poor soundproofing properties, so its design language was transferred to the space through e.g. The customer coat room.
