Known for its extensive range of sushi, Fuku will open its new restaurant in Iso Omena shopping centre in Espoo in April 2017. The customer wanted a warm and elegant atmosphere, with a colour scheme that predominantly featured wood and the colour black.
An interior created around good food has to live up to the flavour
“I was so excited to get to design the new Fuku opening in Iso Omena,” says Standi’s interior architect Sanni Herttuainen. When a product is this excellent, the space around it has to convey the same quality and image. The design is challenging, but also very rewarding. “An interior created around good food has to live up to the flavour,” Sanni adds.
Fuku’s existing restaurants feature wooden trellises and the customer wanted to make use of them in new restaurants, too. However, the majority of Iso Omena’s wall surfaces are glass, so it was a challenge to use a wall trellis. We managed to fulfill the customer’s wish, as the plans incorporated the wooden trellis as a ceiling element. When combined with lighting, the ceiling element brought the desired style to the space. The trellis invites the customer from the main entrance directly to the till.
An adaptation of the very popular and traditional Japanese ASANOHA pattern is used on the restaurant’s walls. The space’s chairs, bar stools and light fixtures were chosen by the customer, and all furniture choices are guided by the furnishings in existing Fuku restaurants.
